I see a lot of people asking whether it really matters if you wake up early or not. After all, most of us are forced to wake up early for work on a consistent basis. So does it matter? Well, what I think matters more, and what the science tells us matters more, is waking up at the same time of day consistently.
The case for consistent sleep patterns
Why will this help you? It keeps your biological clock on a set routine so that it becomes used to waking up and going to sleep at the same time every day. So if you go to bed at 12am every night and wake up at 7 every morning, your body will become used to this after a few weeks, and you will find that you begin to feel tired around 12 each night, and you are alert and ready to go after 7 each day. This process will help you because it will make you much more productive and efficient during the day.
Science behind the process
What most people do not know is that the body truly does have a daily internal clock, which becomes used to all the processes that impact your system like running, eating, using the bathroom, exercising, and sleeping. So if you wake up and go to bed at different hours each day, it will seriously put your body out of its normal clock, and you will likely feel tired as a result. This is called you circadian rhythm.
Successful people wake up early
Although it is most important to wake up and sleep at the same time each day, it is also important to wake up early as the two are related. If you are always waking up at 10am, first off you likely will not have a job for too long and second it will be likely that you are not on a set schedule of sleeping. This is where the weekends come in. Do not expect to stay up until 4 am and wake up at 11am on Friday and Saturday night, and then be ready to fall asleep at 11pm on Sunday night, you’re biological clock is confused here!
DO NOT HIT SNOOZE
There is simply no point in hitting the snooze button on your phone in the morning. The reason? The sleep you get after this point is not going to be helpful at all. In fact, it will make your body feel worse after you wake up. Think about it, will an extra hour of sleep help you? Not at this point because there is not time for your body to go into what experts will call REM sleep, which is when your body actually regains most of its energy.
Habits
In the end all that this comes down to is habits. If you have the discipline to consistently wake up and go to sleep at the same time every day, then you will learn to transfer this discipline to other aspects of your life such as in your career and in your relationships. Take this advice seriously and you will live a much healthier lifestyle. Remember, personal finance is important, but health is always number one. Remember that, health is always number one.
