Audiobooks have grown in popularity over the years with more and more people trying their “ear” at listening to books versus reading. As the industry expands, more and more titles become available with Audible.com leading the pack in the sale of downloadable audio books. With over 85,000 titles to choose from, listeners can rest assured they will find something to meet their preference. Audio books can be downloaded and played on a number of devices including iOS devices (iPod, iPad, iPhone) directly from the website. Now, as recently announced by Audible.com, consumers have the option of using Audible’s own application available through the App Store. The new app allows for the free delivery of audio books via Wi-Fi to iOS 4 devices.
Features found in this app are similar to that of any audio book application and include bookmarking support, chapter navigation, viewing and listening controls and the option to move your Audible library to iOS via Wi-Fi. Don’t forget the sleep timer, multitasking support, ability to track personal listening habits and access to Audible’s Newsfeed when adding up features. Social networking cannot be excluded and this app provides users the ability to connect with friends and share information regarding any books they may be listening too.
New users who are not already members of Audible.com have access to excerpts from seven books via this new app. Should a non-member decide to change their status and join using the app, a free excerpt of The Facebook Effect by David Kirkpatrick will be added to the deal.
The release of Audible.com’s own app is not the only news worth mentioning. Those interested in trying out an audio book can now do so at no cost through Audible.com. New users can take advantage of Audible’s offer of one-month free trial services and 14 day gold membership free trial. Gold members typically pay $14.95 per month to receive one audio book credit and members-only discounts. Through this offer, new users would receive the free audio book at no cost as long as the membership subscription was canceled before the trial period expires. If the membership is not canceled in that time, the subscription will automatically renew each month. Members can cancel at any time with the understanding that membership cancellation will be effective on the next billing cycle.
